Quality of standard DVD on HDTV?
My family just picked up our first HDTV (Samsung LED Edge LCD 6400 HDTV) but we’ve yet to get the BluRay player. We only have standard DVDs as of now, but for now we’d install the old DVD player (which really isn’t that old – only about eight months) before we get a BluRay box. Anyway, we only ever had an old tube 40-inch something big black box TV, so my question is whether or not the quality of the DVDs will improve on a HDTV as compared to an old tube? Or are we only going to see improvement with BluRays?
Forgot to mention that the new HDTV is 55″. I’m not completely sure if the DVD player has an upconverter but it’s a Sony DVP-NS57P.
Use component (YPbPr) video cables to connect to your HDTV and turn progressive scan on in order to get the best picture possible out of your DVD player; it should be comparable to your old TV. If you use the standard AV cables, I promise you the picture will be worse on your HDTV than it was on your old TV.
