Six Output
Please help me with a Combinational Circuit question?
I have a question that I need to complete for next week.
“Design a combinational circuit which takes input as the 7 bit unsigned binary integer B = B6,B5,B4,B3,B2,B1,B0 and which outputs the 4 bit mantissa M = M3,M2,M1,M0 and the 2 bit exponent E = E1,E0 of the floating point representation of the number.
I do not need to sketch the circuit, I am just meant to write down a sum-of-products expression for each of the six output variables in terms of the input variables. I need to explain the reasoning behind my design also.
Can anyone help?
Recognize that the result will lose some precision since you have 7 significant bits of input and only 4 significant bits of output.
decide if you want to round or just truncate the four MSBs of input data after ignoring leading 0′s
decide the value of the exponent based on the number of leading 0′s in the input.
